ANDREAS STIHL AG produces power and garden tools for private use as well as for forestry and construction, and has been doing so for almost 100 years.
STIHL is an innovation driver, always on the cutting edge, and prescribed itself a renewal of its IT and data infrastructure for high-performance processes. A difficult and lengthy operation, combined with many hurdles and uncertainties.
For STIHL Vertriebszentrale AG & Co. KG, which is responsible for the German market, this major operation did not proceed without risk and complications. During the long changeover phase, their marketing and sales activities were in danger of only being able to be implemented on schedule with considerable additional effort.
STIHL Dieburg had created data structures that had grown over the years to suit their own requirements. These were now no longer compatible and scalable. An interim solution was needed to stabilize the situation and keep the departments' ability to work alive.

STIHL Dieburg's new data fitness is based on a PIM/MAM system combination. Here, all data flows together via interfaces to existing systems. The system was implemented during ongoing operations without any interruptions.
Today, the departments work in just one system and maintain the same data master. Each department finds what it needs for its work, tailored to its market- and customer-specific requirements, thanks to an intelligent role-rights concept.
Time-consuming, error-prone work, such as the manual maintenance of Excel files, is eliminated. Instead, validated data is output. Even complex exports, such as for a catalog creation, can be created in the shortest possible time.
In summary, this means that by breaking down data silos, all data can be found in one place. All departments draw their data from this one location and maintain it only there. All data is validated by the responsible departments via a newly created interface and is therefore correct. The new system has proven itself and is a so-called single source of truth.
And this is not to be the end. Further applications and functions are already being planned. Thus, a transitional or emergency solution has become a continuous pacemaker for the provision of STIHL Dieburg's data.
