The STIHL distribution centre in Germany is introducing SAP and, in so doing, is changing its entire data, software and tool landscape. Existing separate data systems are not being developed further and it had therefore become necessary to combine data from these systems with the central SAP data and external databases. The new database infrastructure and interfaces had to be implemented quickly and in operation within in window of almost three months to guarantee the working capacity of the specialist departments.
"With netzwerk P as a reliable partner, the STIHL distribution centre in Germany succeeded in combining the functions of separate individual systems with the introduction of the SAP data landscape and other external data sources. Thanks to its multifaceted knowledge of STIHL and a high level of product comprehension, netzwerk P succeeded in implementing the requirements of the individual specialist departments extremely quickly whilst remaining budget-conscious. Introducing the MAM/PIM system has enabled a high level of process security and data quality to be reached in order to make use of data in an automated and future-proof way."
Together with the STIHL distribution centre in Germany, we developed a multi-stage concept for implementing the MAM/PIM system (Media Asset Management/Product Information Management). The first stage of the concept contained a visualisation of the data landscape with its components, together with an infrastructure analysis. Starting from this initial basis and with further consultation from netzwerk P, the future data landscape and entry of data streams into a system using an implementation strategy was outlined. After consolidating the data structure, all data layers were able to be brought together and an MAM/PIM system could be set up with interfaces to existing systems. Thanks to this concept, we succeeded in combining various isolated solutions and sources into one system.
By introducing the portal, we were able to generate sustained added value for our customer thanks to a unified data structure, enrichment of data, closure of data silos and an increase in data quality. Transparency for all those involved in the process could be achieved by bringing together various existing data layers into just one data layer. Automated processes via the MAM/PIM system performed the data transfer and quality data management and guaranteed that data was consistently saved and stored. New, uniform data structures form the basis of efficient automated distribution of data into different channels. Alongside taking over interface management, netzwerk P created with this solution a scalable, future-proof system that can be expanded depending on individual requirements.
netzwerk P designed and executed the entire process of analysis, conception and implementation. In the MAM/PIM system, the data layer from SAP, PIM system, price calculation with rebate system, asset database, Excel listings and other data sources are brought together and clearly assigned to each article. Beyond technical optimisation of the data layer, our tool enabled us to overcome the hurdle of dealing with data. Awareness of data and requirements was created. Improvement to the data layer creates new communication, meaning everyone in the company can benefit from improvements in quality and data transparency through visualisation.
